Winstars Academy Teams vs. USA Region 1 Olympic Development Teams
Pennsylvania State University
Friday January 9th, Saturday January 10, Sunday January 11
Games will be played at Holuba Hall at The University, Indoor 11 vs. 11

It is an honour to be invited to participate in the Olympic Development Program Region 1 Camp which is held over the January 9th-11th weekend at The Pennsylvania State University. Region 1 is consistently known as one of the better regions for producing great talent for the USA National Team. They just competed in the Super Division at Disney Tournament in Florida this past week and were the Champion of the 1992 Boys and Runner Up with the 1993 Boys Team.

We will be travelling by 56 passenger Coach, our Dallas Coach, our Travel Partner.
We will be staying at the Ramada Inn State College, http://www.ramadasc.com/

Ramada Inn

US Youth Soccer ODP is known as the premier identification and development program for the nation's youth seeking the opportunity to compete at the national, professional and collegiate levels of play.  US Youth Soccer ODP is the original Olympic development program and the only elite player development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer as well as a majority of current and past national and youth team members, as alumni.

US Youth Soccer ODP players participating at the US Youth Soccer ODP Super Group at Disney's Soccer Showcase have been selected through a series of trials at their local, US Youth Soccer State Association and then US Youth Soccer regional levels.

We will be playing our games in Holuba Hall, A State of the Art Indoor Training Facility at The Penn State University.

Holuba Hall

Primarily the indoor practice facility for the Penn State football team, the massive Holuba Hall also serves as a practice and competition facility for many of Penn State's other athletic teams. Featuring two indoor 80-yard practice field side-by-side, the 118,000-square foot facility has a new field turf surface and plenty of space for everything from indoor golf and softball practice to lacrosse competitions and soccer workouts.

Holuba Hall

We will be taking our U16 and U18 Teams , as well we will be taking our U14 Winstars Academy Teams.

I am looking forward to a great weekend of soccer and we will be able to gauge where we are at as an Academy as we will be playing the best Players in the Countryr from the best region, this was shown this past week at Disney, where they were Champion and Finalist in the Super Division Group of the Tournament and Disney is known as one of the best, if not the best tournament in the USA.

Penn State        Region 1 Youth Soccer        Penn State

It will also be a wonderful opportunity for College Coaches to watch our games and see our players against fantastic opponents on a huge surface, 120yds by 80yds, Penn State has the finest of athletic facilities in the country and our Academy is honoured to have the priveledge on this field and be part of this competition.

We are excited to start and kick off 2009 at Happy Valley and Playing against the Region 1 ODP.

We will leave at 1pm from Soccer Centre in Woodbridge and come home on Sunday January 11 approx 9pm.

Winstars Showcase 2008 - Thank You

Winstars Soccer

I would just like to take a few moments and thank all the academies, players and families for supporting our initiative to showcase all of the Senior as well as Junior Soccer Players last week at The Soccer Centre as well as the WWK Sportsdome. I would like to thank all of our Referees who did an excellent job as well as Dr. Gringmuth and Sports Centres who covered both facilities for our program and showcase.  I would like to thank the Westin Bristol Place Hotel for being our Host Hotel where the University Coaches Stayed as well as our guests from Frosinone Calcio.

We started off the Showcase with our Dinner and Speech, I would like to compliment our Banquet Hall, Fontana Gardens who did an outstanding job, the food was great and the Hall was a Sellout with just under 300 people attending.  Our Guest Speakers, Coach Gorman from Penn State, Alan Koch from Simon Fraser and Anthony Capotosto from U of T., all did an outstanding job at presenting information about University Soccer and preparing for the next step.

The games started on the Friday morning at both locations and we had over 100 University Coaches attend, the most we have ever had at any event that I have showcased, this is amazing considering the bad weather throughout the USA and Canada, we managed to get all Coaches here except a few who were stuck at Airports and could not make the trip.

I would personally like to thank all of the USA and Canadian University Coaches for making the effort at the holiday time of year to come up and see our players.

The level of play was excellent and all games were played with effort, skill, teamwork and sportsmanship, I would like to commend all Academies, Staff, Players and Parents, for making this such a worthwhile cause as so many of our players from all academies got showcased.

I would also like to thank all of the Winstars Players who definetely played with everything they had from start to finish, I was very proud of all three Teams that competed, and from the positive feedback I am getting from University Coaches and also from what I saw myself or heard, I am excited for our players and enjoyed how we played soccer, it was entertaining and fun to watch, the most important thing was that all of our players were enjoying themself, having fun.

In closing, I want to thank everyone who made our event special, as our saying goes, to give everyone " a reason to believe " and to make it happen. As we approach the New year, it will become more apparent every day, the value of our showcase and the importance it is to showcase our players in our country.  Our Players will be able to experience University NCAA/NAIA Soccer in the USA and receive an education while playing soccer, the game they all love. I started this academy with a dream and I can see exciting things happening around the Winstars Academy. Enjoy your holidays and look forward to the New Year.

Thankyou so much,

Academy Director

Bobby Graham

Marco Terminesi Scores first Professional Goal with
Milwaukee Wave

Marco Terminesi

I was very happy to hear over the holidays that Marco Terminesi, my former player had signed with the Milwaukee Wave of the Professional Indoor Soccer League in the USA.

Marco was a special person and player who I had known for many years as a yongster in the Club where I was Director and I was able to coach him for his last year of soccer before going on to the University of Louisville to play University Soccer.  I always liked Marco because he loved the game and had the ability and skill to get to the next level, he also had that nose of the net, he was a goalscorer, also came into play, was that Marco started to grow and get bigger and stronger, so when you add also those components together, you definetely get a player.

I encouraged him to do well in the classroom, which he did and made honour roll.  I then took our team to the Dallas Cup, where we played in the Super Division and our first game was against Benfica FC., the reserve team of the World Famous Portugal Club Team. In the morning of the game I took the squad for a wee walk, a few miles I can remember !! and I told them that no matter what the score was, we should never give up and that would be the only way we would learn and it would be possible to beat Benfica and anyone for that matter, it would be 11 vs. 11 and if all of us gave our all, anything would be possible.

Well , on Monday April 14, 2003 at Richland College in Dallas, Texas, we were down 1-0 late in the game when our Goalkeeper Kevin Pontes takes a goalkick, which carries over the head of the right defender, As Marco anticipated the run and with great adrenaline towards the ball he sees the Benfica Goalkeeper come of his line and Marco one touch the ball into the net, the rest is history, we tied Benfica 1-1. Lost to Tigres of Mexico, were tied at half (to the eventual champions) and beat the best team in the USA, Solar of Texas, 3-2.

Marco came back from adversity and showed great perserverance, after breaking his leg two times in the same year 1998, he overcame and received an Athletic Scholarship to UofL, he always remembers the words to never give up, and he has done one outstanding job in college, not only on the field but also off the field where he was an all conference scholar athlete.  He has now started his Professional Career in Soccer and it will be exciting to follow his career as he has only just begun.

It was always a pleasure to coach Marco and to still be very good friends with Marco and his Dad Kim and his Mom Connie and his two brothers. Best of Luck Marco, our Winstars Academy Players will be following your progress.

Sincerely your Coach

Bobby Graham

"Announcement"
Johnny Borsellino
New Team Captain
of The Winstars
Senior Academy

Johnny Borsellino

Logo

I am very happy to announce Johnny Borsellino as Co-Captain of our Academy along with already named Captain Daniel Iannacito.  Johhny is an excellent soccer player , more important for our academy, he is an excellent young man who leads by example and is a wonderful advertisement of how you should play the game in midfield and for our academy program.

Johnny is a very good student athlete and has made great strides in our program, he always had the talent, that is a gift from God, however he has been able to add to this , other components of the game that is required to play at the top level in NCAA Division 1 Soccer. He is a competitor and loves the game of soccer and is honoured to be our Captain of our program moving forward and I am honoured to have him as our leader and team captain.

Canada needs more skilled players like Johnny and there is no question that he will be one of the most highly recruited player in our country for 2009 recruiting, he led by example on the field as well as off the field on our summer tour.

Our other Co-Captain Daniel Iannacito just came back to our academy after spending the summer in Italy and also did a fine job with leadership and play on our summer tour. With both of these players leading our elite academy, our future is very bright.

Director Winstars Academy

" The Winstars Way - Academy Philosophy and Expectations. "

The Philosophy of our Academy is primarily focused on developing players to the best of their ability.

Players must bring all the equipment /clothing provided by the academy to every training session and game. Clothing must be clean and players Soccer Boots have to be polished , as well players have to have Shirts tucked in and Socks up , We want to present a professional image and environment.

Practises are mandatory
, We are a serious program , so we expect full attendance. Players must realize this is not recreational soccer, This is not Club Med.! Our training will be of the highest level of elite and developmental training that will be provided anywhere in our Country.

Players must conduct themselves with Class and Dignity both on and off the Soccer Field. Players must give 100% all of the time in Training and of course in the game.

Players must work together with all teammates and be supportive at all times. The Winstars Soccer Academy believes the development of Character to be just as important as the development of Soccer Skills.

We are so much more than a Soccer Academy , The Winstars Way is about teaching life skills that will help our students/players and young men be able to meet the challenges of Adult Life in the Future. Done!

Bobby Graham
