TRYOUTS - NOW TAKING PLACE FOR ALL AGES

Tryouts

Tryouts and Training sessions now open to all interested players - future winstars

We have now opened our training sessions to all players interested in joining one of our academy teams.  It is our opinion that attending these open sessions increase the likelihood of making one of our teams.  We also feel that the player attending the sessions will feel more comfortable and relaxed over time and will ultimately play better and see if it is the right fit for himself and his family and at the same time we will see if the player is the right fit for our academy. We have a serious program that develops talent and allows them the opportunity to be showcased and exposed to the best college coaches and maximize the dream of playing in college on an athletic scholarship.

Please email our office at winstarssoccer@rogers.com or call Academy Director Bobby Graham at (905) 339-8625

OUR YOUTH PROGRAM

Winstars Soccer Academy  - Introduction of our New Program - Our Centre of Excellence  -  We are Developing the next generation of players in Canada - Do you want to play at the next level ?

Message from the Director - At our Academy we are committed to providing the best for our players, we really care about the future of our players and want them to have a positive and successful experience.  We want our players to enjoy the game, by doing that it will give them the confidence to work hard on improving skills and understanding of the games.  You have to learn how to play before you put the academy player into competition.  Once we establish the skills and technique we will start working on teaching them the understanding of Team play and the player role within the team.

Future Stars

The training environment is first class in our academy, we have Professional Coaches, Trainers and Therapists which is very important in the development of good soccer players.  We will challenge our players everyday and encourage them to be creative and to take risks without the fear of losing.  we believe that soccer is an art and our creative players are short in supply and high in demand all over the world and those are the ones that people pay to see. Our academy has produced players who have those values and we need to produce more players like Messi, Zidane, Ronaldo and Pato. We want our players to love the game and have a smile on their faces when they leave the training and the same passion and smile when they are coming to training.

Wee Winstars

Our philosophy to success is based on possession soccer, having a fun and learning environment that encourages risk taking and creativity, we also want to recruit families that see the big picture, and will be with us for the long term, learn how to play before you compete.

Our Academy compared to Club Soccer:

CLUB SOCCER
OUR ACADEMY
Quantity - take as many players as they can
Quality - restrict the number that we can work with in a professional manner
Take anyone with a cheque
We have a look at the player in training and advise if it would be the right fit for our academy and the player.
Controlled and Coached by Parents-Amateurs
Organized and Coached by Professional Coaches who are licensed and have a proven track record
Running laps and scrimmage
Meaningful training - prepared and organized - a seasonal plan - an individual plan for each player
Competition before they learn to play
Learn to play first - then compete
Winning comes first
Player Development comes first
Coaches and Parents screaming and coaching from sidelines
Coaches will do most coaching in training/ Parents who will only make positive comments
Win at all costs philosophy
Encourage and allow freedom of expression and where the player will learn by making mistakes and we encourage them to take risks without screaming at them
Equal game to training ratio
3 - 1 academy training to game ratio , more meaningful games when we play
The same players on the bench every game
All Players in our academy will play equally / at least 50 percent of each game / all will be treated fairly and equally
*** Most players will quit before High School
It will be a wonderful experience and the player will stick with the sport throughout high school
Cost will be cheaper
Our costs will be higher because we are a business however at the end of the day, we are certainly affordable
No Medical Person On Duty
Safety is our first concern, we have a therapist on duty every training and every game , we also have an enclosed field, All our coaches have police checks as well as coaching credentials in order to coach.

We are asking our young players to compete
before they learn how to play the game.

Our Soccer School for our Younger Players
Wee Winstars  -  4,5 and 6 year olds - The experimental stage
Academicals  -  7, 8 and 9 year olds  - The learning to train stage

Announcement of Team Captain of Junior Team - Blagoja Dimitrievski

Winstars

Blagoja Dimitrievski

Blagoja Dimitrievski

I am very excited to make an announcement that our player Blagoja Dimitrievski will be our Team Captain for our Junior Academy Team.  Bobby has shown me that he loves the game and always wants the ball, works so hard and always comes to training, he leads by example and has the qualities needed to be a leader with our program.  He has an excellent first touch, good vision, good passer of the ball and can use both feet, has the flair and most important, he can score goals.

I know that Bobby is still a work in progress, however I am confident that he has the right stuff to lead our program on the park and off the park when we travel to competitions and showcase tournaments.  He is young, however he will only get better as time goes on and will be a leader and gain respect of the Junior academy players.  He has the right attitude to play the game and has the composure and discipline necessary to be a leader for our program.

As Academy Director, I take this appointment very seriously and have talked it over with Bobby and he has accepted the Captaincy which I am very excited about.  Please support him and welcome him tonight at training.

I am very happy to announce that our academy player Malcolm Kenlock has agreed and made a commitment to attend Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia and to play for their Senators Soccer Team.  Malcolm is an excellent soccer player as well as a very good student, he has played so well in our academy and has been an excellent defender, however he can play midfield, he has good vision and good technique and excellent speed, has an excellent attitude and very much respect.  I have seen Malcolm come a long way as a player and person, he is playing the best soccer that I have ever seen him play and this is a great boost for him as he has earned this moment.

I would like to commend his Mom Alcidia and his Dad Morris and congratulate Malcolm and his family on this special moment and occasion, he will be signing the letter of intent early next week.  I would also like to thank Head Coach Dr. Greg Myers who is also is the Athletic Director and Assistant Coach Michael Knox, Coach Knox has to be credited especially as he scouted Malcolm and showed much interest in Malcolm, and has been a former player at Davis & Elkins College and is from Canada.  Coach Myers is a legendary Coach at the University and has an excellent reputation in the soccer community in the USA , we know that Malcolm could not ask for a better two mentors.

Malcolm will play for the Senators in the West Virginia  Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will be heading to West Virginia in August.

In closing, congratulations to Malcolm, all of us in the academy, players, coaches and families wish you all the very best as you enter the next chapter of your life, we are very proud of you.

Daniel Festa makes commitment

Our Player Daniel Festa makes commitment to attend Manhattan College and Play for the NCAA Division 1 Jaspers Soccer Team

I am very happy to announce that our academy player Daniel Festa has made a commitment to attend Manhattan College in New York and play for their NCAA Division 1 Jaspers Soccer Team.  Daniel has been in our academy from the beginning of the academy and has been one of our Team Captains of our Junior and Senior academy.  Daniel is an excellent soccer player and student athlete, he has worked so hard on the soccer field and in the classroom, he will be a role model for any of our future academy players and a fantastic advertisement for Canadian Soccer, he is a first class young man in every way and he has earned this moment.  Manhattan College is located in New York City, and has a long tradition of academic excellence and the deep rooted heritage of Lasallian education and also has a beautiful campus in Riverdale.  Daniel will be enrolled in the School of Business, which has an outstanding reputation and is located in New York which is the financial capital for the USA, there is simply nothing like being a student in New York City.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Head Coach Ashley Hammond as well as Assistant Coach Jorden Scott, they were both first class in the process and I can tell you that it will be an exciting time for the Jaspers and Manhattan College soccer program.  The Men's Soccer Team compete in the MAAC Conference and Daniel will be starting with them in August.

On a personal note, it has been a wonderful journey for Daniel and I am very thankful that I have been part of this journey, seeing Daniel grow up in Woodbridge and playing his youth soccer for the local club and as Technical Director, I could see that he was the best young player in our program, he just had the class and polish and proper attitude and it was apparent at the time that he would be a big time soccer player.

I would like to commend and congratulate his Parents, Frank and Lisa, and Sister Natalie( who attends Shulich School of business at York University), who have guided and moulded Daniel into the fine young man that he is.  Frank certainly did his part on the soccer field as Daniel coach and mentor and Lisa must have been the one that was able to guide him with his studies and his time management and Daniel has the best grades and SAT Test score we have ever had in our academy.  This is very important as everyone in College Soccer talks about Academics first, however Manhattan College and their Coaches walked the talk, many have not.

In closing, we congratulate Daniel and all of his immediate family and extended family, we will be getting a picture of him signing the letter of intent on our website.  All of us at our Academy, players, coaches and families extend a sincere congratulations to Daniel as he  enters into the next chapter of his life.

I am very proud of the 3 Team Captains of our academy program.  All three of them are not only exceptional young and aspiring soccer players, they are also very good students and that is important for our program as we are all about education.

They all lead by example and they all are disciplined young men.  To be a leader you have to have discipline as that is your foundation for a successful leader.  Our Three Captains are excellent soccer players, however more important, they have Class, they are humble, they work so hard on the soccer field as well as in the classroom and they make the players around them inspired to reach for the same vision and dream that our program has for them.

I have been very successful over the years with having some very fine team leaders and captains and these three boys will rank right up there with the best of them.  At Winstars Soccer Academy it is an honour to wear our jersey and to be a captain, and we are honoured to have such fine young men leading our program and I know our academy has a very bright future with all three of them helping lead our program to be the best academy in Canada.

Why our Academy is a
superior choice to a
Club program for
an elite soccer player

Winstars Academy

Objective of our Winstars Soccer Academy
The focus of our academy is Player Development.  Academy soccer provides players with the best possible opportunity to achieve their utmost as elite soccer players.

Training and Standards
Our academy will train 3 times per week and have one very competitive game every ten days.
We Increase the quality and quantity of training for our elite players. We Increase the amount of quality games. We  Reduce the overall amount of games

Advantages
We focus on a superior everyday training environment which leads to more future opportunities (University NCAA, Professional, National Youth Team).
Recruiting ability enhanced due to summer tour, showcase tournaments, our winter showcase and our connections and proven track record with player development. NCAA and NAIA  University Coaches, Youth National Teams, Professional Teams. Our website has the update profile on everyone of our Winstars student athletes.

Our Player Goals
Education is of major importance of our soccer academy. Our Academy values skill over strenth and encourages technique over physique.  We want to be judged on the quality of player that we produce, not by the amount of trophies we win. Our Academy believes that in order to produce outstanding young soccer players, you need to have the best coaches who have an understanding of coaching at the highest technical level.

As the famous Dutch player Johan Cruyff once said, " How can the player be better than the teacher "
We want to provide young players with an environment where they can prosper as individual players. It is important that they are comfortable with the ball and allowed to express themselves without being shouted at.

Our game is declining in technique, from a very young age our players are being selected in accordance with their size and not their talent level and this is a very big mistake, we want to build a player for the future and at the young age we want to encourage creativity and fun and enjoyment rather than being concerned so much with winning a league or building a winning team.

Our Beliefs
If you learn to play well, the results will come, not the other way around. The fear of losing is creating highly unimaginative soccer.
It is our job to prepare our young players mentally, socially and physically, so that they will be able to get to the next level. We have a proven development record. We have specialized and individual training programs that target specific positions on the field, ie: goalkeeper training.

The USA NCAA Collegiate System is the best development for elite soccer players who are also earning an education.  A quote from one of the best coaches in North America, U14 USA National Team Coach Manfred Schellscheidt, " We are burning kids out.  The need to win the next tournament is the grand reason why we do everything and so we manipulate the situation to find shortcuts to success.  In many cases we just burn these guys out and in the end they haven't mastered anything.  We can do a lot better than that if we start thinking more about what makes the kids better players instead of just winning meaningless games."

We want our players to gain confidence with the ball, we want them to work hard, however most important, we want them to have a smile on their face and want to come back to the next session. We want to inspire passion and we want them to do the things that are required to be able to enjoy the game and reach the next level and their dreams.

For our Younger Players - This is where it all begins.

  WINSTARS...  CHAMPIONS MADE HERE

        Winstars Soccer

Why Winstars Soccer Academy?

" Excellence in education and professional development "

Here are some major reasons why becoming
a member of Winstars is so special and important for you.

(1)   Education, if you are interested in getting to the next level of play, which we consider NCAA Division 1 Soccer. Coach  Graham has sent more players on Athletic Scholarship to Top Academic and Athletic Instutions in the USA, than anyone else or any other coach or academy or club program.

(2)  Our Focus is on Player Development. Winning is secondary to development. We provide an excellent training environment for our players, we practise at least three times a week on quality facilities, and trained by the best coaches who have played at the Collegiate or Professional Level.

(3)  Coach Graham, our Academy Director has sent more players to Professional Soccer and currently has more former players playing Professional Soccer than any other individual or academy in Canada.

(4)   Exposure, Our Winstars Players have the opportunity to be showcased throughout USA. We are highly respected throughout the USA by NCAA Coaches at the Top Universities and have the connections and respect by our Professional Peers not only in Canada, also south of the border. This provides our Players the best possible opportunity to achieve their utmost potential as elite soccer players.

(5)  Our objective of our curriculum is to develop each of the four components of a player in an appropriate manner.
Technical -  Tactical -  Psychological - Physical
We have Professional Staff in all areas working to make each of our academy players the best that they can be.

(6)  Our Standards are very high. All Players who want to play for the Winstars, first must have a tryout and come to a couple of sessions. At that point our Staff evaluates the Player and also allows the Player and Family to see our Program.  There is an Academy for everyone, however not everyone will meet the high standards of our Winstars Academy.

(7)  Our Program is Fun, everytime we train or play games, we want our Players to enjoy their soccer, feel comfortable on the ball and allow them to express themselves. Our Staff will do everything they can to challenge the players, however at the same time allow the players to enjoy their soccer and always to have a smile on their face.

(8)  We have a Proven track record. Coach Graham has developed many players over the years and has taken many different teams to Canadian National Championships and Ontario Cup Championships as well as winning everything there has to be won at the youth level , OYSL League and Cup Championships, won many Coach of the Year awards. Won the Prestigious Robbie Tournament many times. 1996 Ontario Youth Soccer League- Chairman's Award Presented to Bob Graham" In recognition of your continued dedication to the game of Soccer" 1999 From the Robbie International Soccer Tournament - For Outstanding Achievement and contribution to the game of soccer "

(9)   Coach Graham has coached against Teams at the highest level, against the Best the World has to offer at the Prestigious Dallas Cup and many times competed in the Super Group. His Teams have played teams like the reserve and youth teams from AC Milan, Boca Juniors, International of Brazil, EC Vetoria of Brazil, Tottenham Hotspur, New Castle United, Benfica, Monterrey, Tigres, Costa Rica National Team, Moscow Dynamo, Dinamo Kiev as well as the best the USA has to offer, Dallas Texans, FC Delco, Chicago Magic, Chicago Soccers, Nomads of California, and many more.

(10)  Our Players are all well mannered, respectful, disciplined, sportsmanship is demanded, we build character. They all have to have shirts tucked in, boots polished. Well groomed. Swearing and disrespect in not tollerated.

In our academy we put respect before results.  We also pass on our passion for the game and continue to allow our players to grow their passion for the game of soccer.
